About us

Nelson Farms was homesteaded in 1881 by Thor Nelson and is located in the rolling hills of south central Pope County and northeast Swift County near the small unincorporated village of Swift Falls in West Central Minnesota.  The farm was primarily a dairy and crop farm.  The farm is currently being operated by the fourth and fifth generation of Nelson's.  Throughout the years, the farm has increased its crop land acres and maintained a 50 cow herd of grade Holsteins.  In the late 80's, the Red Angus breed was introduced to the family and since, the farm has expanded to roughly 300 cows of both commercial and registered Red Angus cattle as well as continuing to maintain the dairy herd, cropland, and pasture acres.

We background our calves and have them custom fed, while retaining heifers and bulls for replacements.  We are currently members of the Glacial Ridge Cattlemen's Association, Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association, Minnesota Red Angus Association and the Red Angus Association of America.  Darrin is currently a director for the Glacial Ridge Cattlemen's Association and the Minnesota Red Angus Association.  We sell breeding stock off the farm and consign to well known sales in the Upper Midwest.

If you are ever in the area and would like to stop by, visitors are always welcome.  We will gladly show you around and explain why the Red Angus breed will be an asset to your current farming or ranching operation.  Thank you for visiting our website.
